Paul Irwin Crookes presented the latest thinking on the direction for economic relations between the European Union and China as a keynote speaker for the China Development Society at the University of Warwick. His presentation was linked to research uncovered in his latest book ‘The Politics of EU–China Economic Relations: An Uneasy Partnership’, co-authored with John Farnell. This new work examines the political factors in the economic relationship between Europe and China to explain the apparent stalling of the strategic partnership in policy terms and argues that promising potential for cooperation is being repeatedly undermined by political obstacles on both sides.
