Warm congratulations to Dr. Patricia O'Neill, Visiting Scholar with the Contemporary Chinese Studies Programme (SIAS), on the publication of her new book entitled Urban Chinese Daughters - Navigating New Roles, Status and Filial Obligation in a Transitioning Culture.

Based on in-depth interviews with women in Hong Kong, Singapore and mainland China the book explores the practical and emotional work that Chinese daughters do in caring for healthy parents and in-laws versus parents who need temporary or full-time care.

The book offers original and lively insights into changes and continuities in gender dynamics, family relationships and care provisioning in rapidly aging Chinese societies.
