I am currently doing an ethnography of people suffering from depression in Shanghai, looking in particular at how they seek treatment between two medical systems, western bio-medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, both of which have very different ontological assumptions about the mind/body and consequently about what mental illness is. I’m also a writer and photographer with bylines in the London Review of Books, Dazed, Vice, the Huffington Post, Sixth Tone, the Millions and more.
