I am a Departmental Lecturer at the Oxford China Centre at the School of Global and Area Studies. My research interests include state-society relations, youth politics, contentious action, party building, and public opinion in contemporary China.
I completed my PhD in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh, where I specialized in Comparative Politics and Political Behaviour. I received my MA in Political Science from the University of British Columbia and my BA in Peace and Conflict Studies/International Relations from the University of Toronto.
My dissertation, which I plan to turn into a book project, focused on Chinese universities and how a system of political compliance is institutionalized. I examine the phenomenon of unregistered (feizhuce 非注册) and underground (dixia 地下) student organizations to investigate how those mechanisms of control can be challenged or undermined.
