Concepts of sovereignty and contested states - Ming-chin Monique Chu
My most recent research project draws on insights from the works by Stephen D. Krasner to explore China’s sovereignty challenges with references to Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Tibet. As part of this research undertaking, Taiwan’s evolving status as a contested state within the international system since the 1970s will be examined. The project aims to firstly shed light on the fluidity of the theoretical notion of sovereignty in international relations and to secondly deepen our understanding of the actual state behavior regarding sovereignty and its associated attributes in the proposed case studies. Outputs will include a series of journal articles in both area and disciplinary journals and a research monograph over a three-year period.
